A U.S. decision to move border agents from commercial to immigration duties has triggered temporary closures of bridges at the U.S.-Mexico border and long delays for legitimate cross-border traffic. On Saturday morning, the Cordova-Americas bridge that links the Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez with the U.S. city of El Paso could be seen closed to traffic with customs booths empty and traffic cones lined up at the border.
Mexican truck drivers say they face hours or even days-long delays for each trip that they make bringing goods to the United States. Mexico is the third-largest trading partner of the United States.
