Bolivian president elect Rodrigo Paz left for the United States to negotiate the return of diplomatic relations with Washington, severed since 2008, and to seek help from international credit agencies to overcome the acute economic crisis.

He plans to hold meetings in Washington with representatives of Donald Trump's administration, as well as with executives from the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, CAF and the International Monetary Fund. Paz told reporters "the issue of obtaining the dollars Bolivia need to build up the cushion necessary to kick-start our economy" is top of mind for the visit as he boarded a plane at the El Alto International Airport.
