Blood Donation Event: Aiming to provide safe blood to the patients

Yangon Red Cross Supervisory Committee organized a blood donation ceremony at the Prayer Hall of Maha Wiziya Pagoda in Yangon Region on 27th May. The Committee organized blood donation events annually with the aim to provide safe blood to the patients. 

Chairman, Dr. Zaw Htay, Yangon Red Cross Supervisory Committee said "We organize this blood donation ceremony to commemorate the World Red Cross and Crescent Day that falls on 8th May and World Blood Donor Day on 14th June. The volunteers from our committee participate in this event and this is our first time at the Maha Wiziya pagoda. Our committee used to organize blood donation event annually. A total of 216 Red Cross members and volunteers from Yangon Region participated in the donation event."

The Committee Chairman added that their members have already tested the blood types, HIV and also Hepatitis B. And there are also red cross volunteer persons in every township in Yangon Region who are known as the Living Blood Banks. People can contact them whenever they needed blood.

Tin Tin Wai, Donor said "This time is my 40th donation of blood and my first time is when I was 18. As an official of Red Cross Supervisory Committee, I search blood donors for the patients as well as I donate blood. By donating blood once in every four months, we have already checked our health and it can save other lives. So, everyone should donate blood."

Red Cross Offices have been opened in every region and state across the country, and the Red Cross members are also taking part in rescue and relief measures in the time of natural disasters.

Chairman, Dr. Zaw Htay, Yangon Red Cross Supervisory Committee said "Our red cross volunteers also get ready for Cyclone MOCHA and in the aftermath of the Cyclone period, we plan to go to the affected areas for conducting survey.  There are 17 Red Cross Offices in each region and state including Nay Pyi Taw Council Area."

Over 270 blood donors took part in today’s blood donation ceremony, where Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein came to cheer up the blood donors.
