Mon State Government held a collective blood donation ceremony on June 14 to mark the World Blood Donor Day.
During the Ceremony at the Mon State Red Cross Society Supervisory Committee office, Chief Minister U Aung Kyi Thein said that blood donation is a noble act. He also urged the blood donors to continue donating their safe and noble blood.
And, the Chief Minister provided cash assistance to the Mon State Red Cross Society Supervisory Committee. Also, awards were presented to the persons who have donated blood 100 times and to 8 persons who have donated blood more than 40 times. And, a certificate of honour was presented to a well-wisher who donated over 500,000 Kyats for clothes.
Then, at the Mawlamyaing General Hospital, the Chief Minster and officials oversaw blood donation by 150 persons and provided memorable gifts.
Every year countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day on June 14. The event serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.
A blood service that gives patients access to safe blood and blood products in sufficient quantity is a key component of an effective health system. The theme of this year's World Blood Donor Day is “20 years of celebrating giving: thank you blood donors”.
