Blockades on Bolivia-Peru border paralyse trade, tourism

Dozens of Bolivian trucks have been stranded for ten days at the Desaguadero border crossing point following protests with roadblocks in southern Peru. On Friday, on the Bolivian side, trucks carrying export cargo, mainly from the eastern region of Santa Cruz, the Andean nation's economic engine, were unable to pass.

The situation continued since 4 January, when protesters resumed the blockades against Peruvian President Dina Boluarte. Meanwhile, shops and banks were closed on the Peruvian side, and protesters were burning tires and roadblocks backed up with earth mounds.
