Bleeding Disoders: Workshop For Radioactive Synovectomy Implementation Held

The opening ceremony of the Workshop for Radioactive Synovectomy Implementation in individuals with Hemophilic Arthropathy was held on Monday in Yangon.

The workshop and training for inherited Bleeding disoders was organized by World Federation of Hemophilia in coorperation with Ministry of Health and Sports, Katharine Domandy Hemophilia and Thrombosis center ( Kd:ht) and the Rangoon General Hospital Reinvigoration Charitable Trust. It is the two day workshop and it‘s the very first time treatment of radioactive synovectomy for the five selected hemophilic patients.

Speaker, Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, Dr. Thynn Thynn Yee said “We will do the first time implementation of radioactive synovectomy for hemophilia patients in Myanmar in coming Friday after the workshop. This time, the donor company donated medical assistance. But if we can buy the medical assistance like CFC clotting factor concentrate by ourselves, we can provide the continuous treatment for the patients.” 

World Federation of Haemophilia started its assistance twinning projects including medical assistance for patients, refresher courses for health care providers and cooperation on diagnoses since 2015. Synovectomy is one of the objectives of twinning program and multi-departmental effort, hematologists, radiologists, doctors from nuclearmedicine and physical medicine, physiotherapists, orthopedic surgeons and the patients themselves actively participated in this 2days training workshop.

Patient, Aung Myint Moe said “I’m 24 years old and come from Mandalay region. I was diagnosed that I have this hemophilia disoder last three years. I attended to get self care medical training and to listen to useful knowledge for this disoder. I have done more than 15 times for treatment during three years. I will be really glad if I was selected for the new way of treatment.”

There are four hemophilia treatment centers in Myanmar, Yangon Children Hospital, Yangon General Hospital, Mandalay Children Hospital and Mandalay General Hospital. It is estimated that 3900 people with Hemophilia in Myanmar according to Annual Global Survey but only about 600 patients are registered in above 4 centers.
