Binondo Celebrates Culture and History During Lunar New Year

Binondo, Manila’s historic Chinatown, was filled with activity during the Lunar New Year celebrations, drawing both local and international visitors to experience the rich culture of the Chinese-Filipino community.

Ongpin Street, the heart of Binondo, is known for its lucky charms and jewelry shops, as well as its food stalls serving traditional Chinese dishes like frog legs. Beyond its cultural and culinary significance, Ongpin Street is also a historical landmark, linked to Filipino nationhood through the legacy of Don Roman Ongpin, who supported the Philippine revolutionary movement.

Today, the Ongpin family continues to honor this history, reminding visitors of Binondo’s role as one of the birthplaces of Filipino nationhood.
