From Sittwe border trade camp (ShweMingan) and Maungdaw border trade camp in Rakhine State, over 24 million USD of trade volume had been earned in trading with Bangladesh during last June.

Advocate General, Rakhine State Government, U Hla Thein said "In June, the export volume was 2.322 million USD while the import volume reached 0.004 million USD in Maungtaw border trade camp. In Sittwe border trade camp, the export value is 21.9 million USD and it’s showed no import volume yet. "

He continued that export volume is larger than import volume from Rakhine State to Bangladesh at present and explained trade situations.

Advocate General, Rakhine State Government, U Hla Thein said "Trade situations are in normalcy. Most of the export items are tamarind, turmeric root, ginger, dried plum, dried coconut, betel nut, hilsa, plum jam, broom ‌and especially local products.  And imports from Bangladesh are slight too. Last month, Bangladesh government along with consul and some traders came and discussed for enhancing bilateral trades. If possible, they want to get live fish, teak and other regular dry goods from Myanmar in the future."

To prevent spreading of COVID-19 infection from the areas of border trades to Sittwe and Maungdaw, the state government is putting efforts into containment measures and procedures.

Advocate General, Rakhine State Government, U Hla Thein said "State Government is paying attention on the tasks carefully since the cases of two omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5 occur. We’ve speeded up COVID-19 tests for boatmen returning from Bangladesh. First, all the crews are tested simultaneously while ships are being anchored in the middle of water and let the positive patients get treatment at Sittwe Hospital. 3 positive cases were detected last month and all of them have discharged from the hospital."

In addition, for those who are about to work on site for shipping, they need to show two doses of vaccination completed certificate, it’s learnt.
