Bilateral legal cooperation: Meeting of MoLA and China-ASEAN LRC held

The bilateral meeting on Legal Cooperation and Legislative Research Project between the Ministry of Legal Affairs (MOLA) and the China-ASEAN Legal Research Center was held on Tuesday at the Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw.

It was attended by Union Minister and Union Attorney General Dr. Thida Oo and other concerned officials.  Speaking at the meeting, the Union Minister highlighted the strengthened relationship between MOLA and the China-ASEAN Legal Research Center through a MoU on Legal Cooperation and Legislative Research Projects. She also emphasized discussions on cooperation, including the establishment of a legal cooperation committee and a China-Myanmar Arbitration Center during her visit to China.

The Union Minister further outlined MOLA’s efforts in advancing legal knowledge dissemination under the Legal Service Strategy for Justice (2019-2024), with legal research activities. She emphasized that effective legal cooperation would benefit the rule of law and the relations between the two countries.

The meeting focused on selecting research topics for rule of law cooperation, forming a research team and exchanges on the legislative process. It also discussed establishing a China-Myanmar Legal Research Center for cross-border crimes, a China-Myanmar Commercial Dispute Resolution Center and the Union Minister’s potential visit to Southwest University of Political Science and Law (SWUL) as an honorary professor in 2025.
