Biden: Sunak “a groundbreaking milestone” as PM

US President Joe Biden calls the expected appointment of Rishi Sunak as Prime Minister of Great Britain "a groundbreaking milestone."

Sunak will be the first person of color to hold the job and is the child of Indian immigrants. Biden spoke Monday at a White House ceremony marking the Indian holiday of Diwali.

The former Treasury chief was chosen Monday to lead a governing Conservative Party desperate for a safe pair of hands to guide the country through economic and political turbulence.
