U.S. President Joe Biden says he's "running the traps" on the authority he has to declare a climate emergency, and that a decision will come "soon." Biden made the comments to reporters as he returned from Massachusetts where he announced modest new steps to combat climate change, but promised more robust action to come.
Joe Biden, U.S. President said “Well, I think I can do more, unless the Congress acts in the meantime, I can do more because not enough is being done now. And so there's still discussions going on about whether or not there will be some action on my climate plan and that, I'm told that's in play. And I will say we'll see what happens.”
The president also told reporters he expects to talk to China's President Xi Jinping "within the next ten days" and he's still considering a public health emergency for abortion.
