Better transportation: Thanlyin Bridge No (3) completed at 78%

The Construction of Bago River-crossing Thanlyin Bridge No 3 linking Yangon, Thanlyin and Thilawa Special Economic Zone is now 78% complete and is expected to finish in 2024 May.

The Construction of Bago River-crossing Thanlyin Bridge No 3 can reduce the traffic congestion and was constructed in May 2019 with Japanese ODA Loan.
The existing bridge Connecting Tharkaytha and Thinlyin Township have been constructed in 1993. Do to having numerous amounts of passing vehicles and expecting over 30,000 vehicles can pass through the bridge in 2024, the new Thanlyin bridge was built with 4 lanes.

Staff Officer(Urban), BRCBAD , Kyi Yu Wai, said " The truck cannot be passed through the existing bridge and only light vehicles can be withstood. In the modern age, with more and more Traffic congestion, this existing bridge is not enough. Constructing new bridges can reduce traffic jam. In addition, the bridge will facilitate the local and international economic development based upon Thilawa SEZ. And we can fulfill the socio-economic life of the people residing in Thinlayin, Kyauktan, Kayan, Thongwa including Yangon."

The combined bridge design is unique one in the country as it is the very first time in the country.

Staff Officer(Urban), Bago River-crossing bridge administration Dept, Kyi Yu Wai, said " In order to ensure the safety of the waterway, Myanmar Port authority and Waterways Department and jointly discussed about waterway signals and waterways. When we build the bridge, we use Japanese technologies. Due to build the bridge, the Myanmar engineers have a chance to get experiences of constructing the bridge with modern technologies, emerge the skillful workers and get many job opportunities. Upon completion, we will enable to solve the traffic, it will be benefited for the development of Mon and Kayin state as well through East-West Economic Corridor and develop transportation within local regions."

The bridge will be a reinforced concrete steel cable suspension type. The length of the bridge is 3500 meters with 13.254 meters high of clearance. The facility can withstand 75 tonnes of loads for each vehicle.
