A new concrete road, linking Moatsoe Nyaungpin and Awine Villages, was commissioned into service in Hlegu Township of the Yangon Region on Saturday, hailing the occasion as part of the 79th anniversary of Armed Forces Day.
The opening ceremony of the new facility was attended by Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Hla Moe. The road spans over 5,200 ft in length and is 16 ft wide.
The Rural Road Development Department undertook the construction works, with a budget allotment of over 753 million kyats from the Yangon Region Government in the 2023-24 fiscal year.
Designed to withstand loads of up to 20 tons, the road will benefit over 14,000 residents from 17 villages in Hlegu Township, as well as over 9,000 acres of farmland in the area.
In a concerted effort towards harmonious development of urban and rural areas with a focus on poverty reduction, all-weather road facilities play a crucial role in transporting agricultural and livestock products from rural areas.
The Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development is actively engaged in efforts to expand the rural road network in collaboration with concerned officials.
