Better Transportation Access: New Bridge opened in Dawei

Ka Myaw Kin Bridge on Dawei-Launglone Road was commissioned into service on Sunday. Secretary of the State Administration Council Lt-Gen Aung Lin Dwe attended the opening ceremony and made a speech.

He said 1,050 ft long Ka Myaw Kin Bridge was constructed to be a landmark of Dawei. Its Steel Arch Type is unlike other bridges’ designs. He added that all the region/state governments in cooperation with the union government have to make cooperative efforts for harmonious development of the country.

Smooth transportation access is crucial for development of a region. He pointed out that Dawei Special Economic Zone (SEZ) that will be implemented in Taninthayi Region is one of the largest SEZs in Myanmar, and it will connect with Thailand, Cambodia and Viet Nam via sea route, railway and road network.

He reiterated that the government is striving for peace and prosperity of the nation and its people by laying down the road map and objectives. he called for cooperation of all national brethren in an effort for achieving peace in the union, emergence of democracy federal union and development works.

Chief Minister U Myat Ko also spoke about the regional development undertakings and urged the local people to cooperate for long term maintenance of the facility. Deputy Minister for Construction U Win Pe later explained the construction experience of the bridge.

After formal opening of the bridge, the SAC Secretary unveiled the stone inscription of the new bridge and sprinkled scented water on it. Situated on Dawei-Ka Myaw Kin- Maungmakan road, Ka Myaw Kin Bridge connect Dawei in the eastern bank and Launglone Township on western bank.

The bridge is 1,050 ft long and 24 ft wide with 5 ft wide pedestrian lanes on each side. The water clearance is 164 ft and 16 ft high. A total of 9.55 billion kyats budget were alloted for construction of the bridge including 6.45 billion kyats from the Union budget and 3.1 from the Regional Government Fund.

The new bridge was constructed by Construction Group (4) of Bridge Department under the Ministry of Construction. The project commenced on 16th February 2021 and completed on 15th March 2023.
