The Chinese capital city of Beijing is investigating 200,000 people who recently visited the Wholesale Market in the southern part of the city where new COVID-19 cases emerged, a municipal government official said on Monday. The city registered one new COVID-19 case on Thursday and six on Friday, ending a weeks-long lull.

On Saturday, the figure climbed to 36, all related to the market. The confirmed cases in Beijing reached 79 by Sunday. Beijing has shut down the market, which supplied 70 percent of the capital city's fresh produce. It has also temporarily closed another Wholesale Market where some staff members related with the market were also tested positive for COVID-19.
