The Beijing Central Axis was recently added to the World Heritage List by UNESCO during the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee in New Delhi, India.

This brings China's total number of World Heritage Sites to 59. The Axis runs north to south through Beijing, featuring former imperial palaces, gardens, and ceremonial buildings that highlight the city's historical evolution.

A key part of this axis is the Temple of Heaven, located south of the Forbidden City. Covering over 270 hectares, the Temple of Heaven, inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1998, exemplifies the relationship between heaven and earth in Chinese cosmology.
