Bears spotted entering residential areas in Turkiye’s Kars Province

In Turkiye, brown bears from the forests of Sarıkamış in Kars Province have been spotted entering residential areas in search of food before winter hibernation. The bears, typically inhabiting forests at 2,200-2,800 meters altitude, are now searching through garbage containers in the neighborhoods.

Local residents report increased bear activity in the evenings, expressing concerns about safety. The bears return to their forest habitat after feeding, but their presence has made late-night walks impossible for residents.
