Bargain hunters are flocking to an autumn ceramics festival that opened on Thursday in the town of Arita, southwestern Japan. About 160 ceramics stores, restaurants and other businesses are taking part in the festival hosted by the local tourism association in Saga Prefecture.

On the first day, many visitors were seen walking the streets with maps in their hands, and browsing in the shops for tea bowls, plates and other ceramic items. An official of the local tourism association said he hopes the visitors will enjoy shopping, dining and the various events. The festival will run through Monday.
