After a five-and-a-half-month pause, Bangladesh has allowed importers to bring onions from India through land ports to curb rising domestic prices.

The first consignment of 150 tonnes arrived at Hili Land Port in Dinajpur on Sunday afternoon. Later, 660 tonnes of onions, transported by 23 trucks reached Bangladesh via Sonamasjid Land Port in Chapainawabganj. The interim government approved the imports following requests from traders, as onion prices continued to climb in local markets.
