Tourists both local and foreign have been barred from walking on the frozen Gosaikunda lake in the highland region of Nepal. The Gosainkunda Rural Municipality has issued this regulation as the region sees an increase in tourist activity during winter season.

The Chairman of Gosainkunda Rural Municipality said that the ban was put in place to ensure the safety of visitors and prevent potential accidents near the sacred religious site and as well as in and around Langtang National Park. The lakes in the Gosainkunda area freeze during the winter months creating a picturesque yet dangerous environment.
