Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon attended the “Sustainability Dialogue 2025 – Climate Change: A Billion Trees” forum held June 5-7 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, under the patronage of the Mongolian president.

The forum highlighted Mongolia’s Billion Trees initiative, launched three years ago to combat climate change and desertification by planting one billion trees by 2030. Ban Ki-moon participated as a distinguished guest and joined the opening ceremony of the National Tree Planting Days.

This year’s campaign, under the slogan “Plant a Tree in Your Yard,” involves citizens and businesses planting trees across more than 100 districts in Ulaanbaatar and rural areas. Mongolia’s commitment to this initiative has gained international recognition as a tangible effort against global warming.

Climate experts warn that if current trends continue, 80 percent of Mongolia could become desert within 60 years. Ban Ki-moon stressed the importance of the project, describing the tree planting as a way for Mongolia to nurture its future.
