




Sagaing Region Fishery Department has been conducting the dolphin conservation works constantly to protect these endangered aqua species.
Aquatic mammal Ayeyarwady dolphins are the species under the threat to extinct. They give birth to one baby at a time. In Myanmar, there are about 70 Ayeyarwady dolphins.
Dolphins inhibit in river is rare existence that we have to pay special attention, Director of Sagaing Region Fishery Department, said.
Director, Fishery Department (Sagaing), Dr. Su Myo Thwe said "Our department has carried out the conservation process. Ayeyarwady Dolphins are known to the most of the countries and we are conducting the conservation process for them. Along the Ayeyawady River in Sagaing, Katha and Shwebo, the dolphins can be sighted. We prohibit fishing with the illegal battery shock restrictively and we take action against those violated. And then the fishing net is also dangerous to the dolphins. Dolphins were killed after getting entangled in fishing nets and by hitting with fishing gears or hooks. "
Dolphins help fishermen to catch fishes and other aquatic animals. In addition, Jobs opportunities can be created for local population when the eco-tourism based the nature develops.
