Croatian authorities destroyed a massive anti-ship mine from World War II that was lay buried on the sea bed near a key northern Adriatic Sea port. Local authorities in the port of Rijeka evacuated parts of the city while also halting all traffic to secure the area during the removal of the mine, which contained 690 kilograms of dangerous and huge quantities of explosives.

24 people took part in the operation. Officials said the mine, which was first discovered last June (2022), was positioned too close to the port city and that it had to be moved further away before emergency teams could perform the controlled detonation.
