Austria’s Minister for Climate Protection, Leonore Gewessler, announced her intention to endorse European legislation mandating the restoration of damaged ecosystems, a move that could see it ratified by the EU Council on Monday.

Leonore Gewessler, Austrian Minister for Climate Protection "My decision to support this law has been intensely debated. I know I will face opposition in Austria on this, but I'm convinced that this is the time to adopt this law."

Previously unable to fully support the legislation due to internal state divisions, Gewessler noted recent alignment from two Austrian regions has allowed her to override conservative coalition partner reservations. The Minister's stance aims to bolster efforts under the Green Pact, emphasizing the critical need for environmental restoration across Europe.
