Australian FM meets Thai PM in Bangkok

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong met on Wednesday with Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha in Bangkok. Wong is wrapping up her two-day trip to Thailand which followed her visit to Brunei Darussalam.

Wong signed a deal with Thai Minister of Justice to counter human trafficking, pledging support for Thailand's Centre of Excellence for countering human trafficking – a coordinating unit working on human trafficking issues at a regional level between ASEAN countries, Australia and other countries.

She also met her counterpart, Thai Foreign Minister and signed a joint action plan with details for military and economic cooperation, and collaborations on climate change and post-pandemic recovery, as the two countries mark 70 years anniversary of diplomatic relations. Australia and Thailand's trade is worth $21.6 billion annually with Thailand as Australia's third largest trading partner among Southeast Asian countries.
