Australia to hold royal commission inquiry into Bondi Beach shooting

Australia would hold a royal commission into the mass shooting that killed 15 people at Bondi Beach, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Thursday as he faced public demands for answers.

The commission would examine four key areas, Albanese said. A royal commission has broad powers to investigate, the ability to summon witnesses and compel agencies to produce documents. It can also offer legal protections to whistleblowers.
