Australia Foreign Minister in diplomatic contact with Israeli officials

Australia Foreign Minister Penny Wong spoke to Afternoon Briefing about Australia's response to the conflict earlier and says she has been in contact with the Israeli government to ensure diplomats remain safe. The Foreign Minister has reiterated the call for de-escalation and the prioritization of dialogue and diplomacy, in alignment with the position of many other countries around the world.

The Minister has also voiced concern over the unfolding situation. The safety of Austrian personnel and their dependents in Tehran is being treated as a top priority, with efforts focused on ensuring they are in the most secure conditions possible. Additionally, the Austrian government has clearly communicated its expectations regarding the safety of its staff to the Israeli government.
