Austin welcomes Georgian counterpart to Pentagon

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin welcomed Georgian Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze to the Pentagon for bilateral discussions and announced the approval by Congress to fund $33 million in security assistance for Georgia.

Austin told his Georgian counterpart that they are deeply appreciate Georgia's outsized effect on security and stability in the South Caucasus and around the world and their security partnership continues to deepen.

In October 2021, Austin and Burchuladze met in Georgia, where the secretary announced the Georgia Defense and Deterrence Enhancement Initiative, an agreement to continue American support for Georgia's military for six years.
