Attack in Myawady: Effective action will be taken to the terrorists

The terrorist groups KKO and PDF launched an attack at Myawady Trade Zone in Myawady of Kayin State in the early morning on 25th March. They also set fire and destroyed the facilities. 

During the attack, 3 members of police force, a staff member of Customs Department and a civilian died while some the police members have been lost contact.

Concerning this case, Leader of the State Administration Council Information Team Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun responded the media enquiry on Sunday.

Leader, SAC Information Team, Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun, said " Launching attack to this place is the act of reckless, the act of terrorist, the act of hampering the development of the region and the nation, and the act of stupidity. The attack was launched about 200 meters west of the trade zone. The terrorists also destroyed the Security X-ray machines of the zone. The security force made counter attack to the terrorists, and during the attack, 3 members of police force, a staff member of Customs Department and a civilian died. There are also some members of the police force who have been lost contact.The death bodies of those police members, customs staff and a civilian have been set fire. It was the inhumane act, committing the war crime."

At around 5:00 am this Sunday morning, PDF terrorists and KKO Group also launched attack in Kawkareik. A heavy weapon exploded west of the construction department office, and a 14-year old innocent civilian died due to this attack. Also, the Yay Pyon Bridge was also destroyed by explosion.

The Maj-Gen said the situation is under control by the security force in Myawady. No.1 Friendship Bridge was reopened but there are less commuting.

He pointed out that development of Myawady as well as the local residents rely mainly on Myawady trade zone. This trade zone creates many job opportunities and support for regional development.

From April to September in 2022-2023 fiscal year, the export volume at Myawady Trade Zone reached 1.886 billion US dollars while the import volume reached over 1.071 billion kyats. It handles 22.7% of all border trade exports of the country. Most of the export items 

Leader, SAC Information Team, Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun, said " Committing attack to this trade zone not only damaged the regional development but also livelihoods of rural people who engage in farming industry. Their agriculture products are mostly exported through Myawady Trade Zone."

The Maj-Gen said the security forces are striving to prevail peace in the region as soon as possible. Effective action will be taken to those who destroyed the lives and prosperitiesof civilian. He urged all the people and organizations to cooperate in taking action against to those committed the attack to the Myawady Trade Zone.
