Attack against sub power station: Bomb attack with drones on Thayagone power substation

The so-called PDF terrorists affiliated NUG are intentionally attacking against the infrastructures related to the electric power generation, transmission and distribution to the public. On April 4, 2023, due to the bomb attack against 230/33/11 KV 160 MVA Thayagone main sub power station dropping bombs using drones, the 2 personnel serving duties at the substation sustained injuries, one was killed, transformers and equipments of the station were destroyed.

As a result of the attack, the national transmission system broke down at 9:19 PM on 4th April. Due to the rapid response and fixing of the skillful workers and engineers, the regular power transmission to the national grid could be restored at 00:49 hours on 5th April.

To date, the intentionally attacks of so-called PDF terrorists affiliated NUG against power generation plants, power lines and substations have been so far for 229 times. The Ministry of Electric Power is carrying out the repairing works with the collaboration of security forces.
