Assistance From China: China Provides 100,000 USD For Flood Affected People

Chinese Government on Monday provided cash assistance of 100,000 USD for the flood affected people in Myanmar. Following heavy rains, floods hit many states and regions including Kayin and Mon states and Bago and Taninthayi regions in July and August resulting in losses.

Embassies, civil society organizations and NGOs are providing relief aid and cash assistance for the flood victims. Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar handed over the cash assistance to the Myanmar Red Cross Society in Yangon.

Ambassador, Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, H.E. Hong Liang said “… Many states and regions in Myanmar affected by serious floods. A lot of People’s life affected. China as a close and friendly neighbor of Myanmar and we have very much concerned about that. It is our usual practice when Myanmar is affected by natural disasters. China is always extending our helping hands. So today, I am here in the Myanmar Red Cross. We will help Myanmar Government to adjust the challenges and to help those people in the disaster affected areas to overcome their difficulties.”

Myanmar Red Cross Society has been carrying out rehabilitation tasks and providing assistance for the flood affected people.  

President, Myanmar Red Cross Society, Professor Dr. Mya Thu said “We’ve been providing emergency relief aid for the flood affected areas as fast as we can.  We are also carrying out rehabilitation works in flood affected areas. We will also provide cash assistance to flood affected people. We, the Myanmar Red Cross Society, will help the flood victims rehabilitate by providing assistance for their livelihood, health, education, social and economic conditions.”

This is 4th donation from the Chinese Government to the Myanmar Red Cross Society to carry out rehabilitation and assistance processes. It is also learnt that 20 people have died and about 200,000 people have been displaced by the recent floods.
