ASEAN-TMHS-GMP-training: MoH Union Minister delivered opening remark

The opening ceremony of 5th edition of ASEAN Traditional Medicines and Health Supplements Product good manufacturing practices training was held at the Ministry of Health in Nay Pyi Taw in the morning on May 11 with the presence of Union Minister for Health Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win. In his opening remark, the Union Minister said the traditional medicines have been widely using in the public healthcare sector since many years ago.

So, the safety, authenticity, healthfulness and quality assurance of traditional medicines are crucial and plays the major role. The department of traditional medicine is providing quality improvement of Myanmar traditional medicines keeping abreast not only in ASEAN region but also in the world stage by issuing necessary rules and regulations including good manufacturing practices, directives and conducting training, it is collaborating with ASEAN Traditional Medicines and Health Supplements Product Working Group-TMHS PWG and coordinating Technical Guidelines required to be smooth in the trading sector with ASEAN member countries.

The training is conducted for the entrepreneurs who have received manufacturing license to understand the GMP system and comply with it. The training is co-organized by the department of traditional medicines, department of food and drug administration and pharmaceutical factory (Insein) under the Ministry of Industry and a total of 51 trainees from 35 traditional medicine manufacturing industries in 8 regions and states, civil service personnel from the department of traditional medicine (Headquarters), traditional medicine manufacturing factory (Mandalay) and University of Medicines and the head officers of regions and states department of traditional medicine. The training will be conducted from 11th to 16th May.
