ASEAN-China Center: MoALI UM received delegation of ASEAN-China Center

The Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation, U Min Naung, met with Mr. Shi Zhongiun, the Secretary General of the ASEAN-China Center, and delegation at the Union Minister’s Office on December 9.

During the meeting, discussions were held on the cooperation in the food and agriculture sectors between ASEAN and China, the efforts to reduce the development gap among ASEAN member countries by the ASEAN-China Center, issues related to the export of agricultural products from Myanmar to the People’s Republic of China, investments in factories producing small agricultural machinery in Myanmar, the development of human resources in agriculture and livestock, cooperation in technology exchange, the use of digital agricultural technologies, and infrastructure development.

They also discussed measures for cross-border prevention and control of animal diseases, establishing disease-free and protective zones, long-term surveillance, laboratory testing, public awareness campaigns, and the technical and financial support needed for these activities.

Other matters addressed included the establishment of research centers for crops, the introduction of improved farming techniques, the creation of centers for quality control of agricultural products, and projects related to issuing e-phyto certificates for pest-free plants.The meeting also covered plans for upgrading laboratories in the fields of chemistry, microbiology, and water quality testing.

Also attended the meeting were the permanent secretary, directors, and relevant departmental officials, it’s learnt.
