Argentina seizes arms cargo while raising security for G20 summit

6 November 2018

Argentine officials said on Monday, they seized a shipment of weapons and ammunition that was sent from the United States and believed to be destined for Brazil as security tightens ahead of the Group of 20 leaders summit in Buenos Aires later this month.

The shipment, which included disassembled weapon parts for pistols, rifles and machine guns, was seized last week by border officers. The weapons cache may have been on its way to criminal groups like the Red Command and the First Capital Command, some of Brazil's most powerful drug gangs, according to Argentina's Security Minister Patricia Bullrich. Argentina will host the G20 leaders summit from November 30 to December 1 in Buenos Aires.
