Aquarium welcomes more than 70 baby weedy seadragons

More than 70 Weedy Seadragons hatched at the Birch Aquarium in La Jolla, California. The Weedy Seadragon is related to seahorses and pipefish and breeding them is a delicate process. The newborns are approximately an inch long and weigh less than one gram.

They will grow to be 13-15 inches, according to an aquarium spokesperson. The Weedy Seadragon is independent. Once one hatches it can feed on its own. They're also picky eaters and eat with an appetite for tiny mysid shrimp. The babies are being raised behind-the-scenes at the aquarium but there are 16 adult seadragons on display to the public.
