Annual General Meeting: MNCOLD discusses dam safety measures

The 6th Annual General Meeting of the Myanmar National Committee on Large Dams (MNCOLD) was held in Yangon on March 22.

Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Bo Bo Kyaw attended the meeting, and discussed dam safety measures in Myanmar, since the country is located near major earthquake fault lines such as the Sagaing Fault.

The Deputy Minister stressed the importance of upgrading and inspecting dams according to international safety standards to reduce risks from earthquakes and floods. MNCOLD was encouraged to continue supporting dam safety assessments, technical standards, engineer training, and environmental monitoring activities. New committee members were also appointed during the meeting.
