Anniversary Celebration: 3rd anniversary of founding the Myanmar Coast Guard

3rd anniversary of founding the Myanmar Coast Guard was celebrated on Sunday, in conjunction with the commissioning of four new vessels. Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended the ceremony held at No.3 Navy Jetty (Thilawa).

During the ceremony, the Director General of the Coast Guard made a brief explanation on the salient points of the new commissioning vessels. Then the miniature vessel was presented to the Senior General by member of the State Administration Council Union Minister for Defence Admiral Tin Aung San.

In his speech, the Senior General stressed to build a qualified Coast Guard for national interest and maritime security and rule of law along the coastal area. He also urged all to work in cooperation with regional countries and neighbouring countries in providing humanitarian assistance for disaster and emergency rescue measures as well as to participate in Port State Control Inspections and marine conservation works.

He added that the Coast Guard has been extended every year to provide effective measures in safeguarding the over 143,000 nautical square miles areas, covering 1,400 islands. He stressed the importance of adhering the maritime laws, international laws, IMO Regulations, conventions and treaties in implementing the tasks.

Being a Civilian-Oriented Troop, the Senior General urged the Coast Guard members to carry out for ensuring safety and security of people. This was followed by commissioning ceremony of four 48-meter long Coast Guard Fast Patrol Boats. After the ceremony, the Senior General and party took a tour of Coast Guard compound.
