Animal rights group rescues pets from Türkiye rubble

An American animal rights organization has been working to rescue animals caught up in the devastating earthquake that struck Türkiye and Syria.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, better known as PETA, have saved more than 100 cats, dogs and other pets that were trapped in buildings or simply left behind, according to the nonprofit organization.

The magnitude 7.8 quake killed more than 47,000 people in Turkey and Syria. Turkish. Turkish authorities say some 173,000 buildings, containing around 534,000 apartments or other units, either collapsed or were severely damaged in the earthquake.
