Analyzing the Herbicide: Pesticide Registration Board held its coordination meeting

The Pesticide Registration Board held its coordination meeting on analyzing the 5 kinds of Herbicide at the Union Minister’s office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation on 14th of March.

At the meeting, the Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Tin Htut in his capacity as chairman of the Pesticide Registration Board stressed that the pesticide registration processes are being conducted systematically by holding several meetings and also the applied pesticides are being examined in line with the international guidelines.

In managing pesticide, Highly Hazardous Pesticide- HHPs are scrutinized in accordance with the FAO Code of Conduct Guidelines to prevent from unnecessary damages. The dangerous pesticides which can harm animals, crops and environment are also forbade or restricted in accordance with section 8 (A) of the Pesticide Law.

He also called for the concerted efforts of the farmers in transforming the nation’s agriculture sector from relying the chemical supplements to healthy ecosystem-based agriculture. Then, the members of pesticide technical committee made sector-wise discussions on pros and cons of 5 kinds of Herbicide.

The reviews and suggestions raised in this meeting will be submitted in next Pesticide Registration Board meeting to make decisions and approvals.
