The biggest river of North America, Mississippi hit its lowest level in recorded history on Monday, with several other gauges at risk to break records as well. The experts are monitoring the river downstream of Columbus as an indicator of the overall health of the river.

Mississippi River is one of the most important trade routes in the country and decreasing water level have been causing ripple effects worldwide. According to the experts, the dried-up Mississippi has starting effects on supply chain delays for goods including grains, cement and fuel which through New Orleans to the Gulf of Mexico.
