Alibaba's Chairman said Thursday that the Chinese internet giant would supply AI technology to power Apple's iPhones in the Asian nations.
Joseph Tsai, Chairman, Alibaba Group said "So Apple has been very selective. They talked to a number of companies in China and in the end, they choose to do business with us. They want to use our AI to power their phones. And so, we're very fortunate and, you know, feel extremely honored to be able to do business with a great company like Apple."
China aims to become a global AI leader by the end of the decade and several Chinese companies are already making waves in the sector. Last month, Chinese firm DeepSeek made headlines when it unveiled an AI chatbot that can match its American competitors apparently at a fraction of the cost.
