Aid starts to trickle into Rio Bonito as authorities in the Brazilian state of Parana said more than 450 people have been treated in the town of Laranjeiras do Sul since a powerful tornado struck the region.

The storm prompted the declaration of a state of emergency to speed up aid and reconstruction efforts. Authorities said 90 percent of the town suffered damage. It was one of the worst natural disasters in the recent history of Brazil and experts say global warming played a role in the floods.
