AI traffic fines begin January 2026

Starting January 1st, 2026, Ulaanbaatar’s traffic will be fully monitored by artificial intelligence–based cameras. Drivers who violate traffic rules will receive fines automatically for 10 types of traffic violations, including running red lights, speeding, driving in the first lane, and parking on sidewalks or green areas.

Regarding cases where vehicles are forced to stop in the middle of intersections due to congestion despite a green light, or when traffic police override traffic signals, the Traffic Management Center explained that the system is capable of recognizing such situations.
