Agroforestry Promotion Project: Workshop on successful completion of the project

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation organized a Workshop on successful completion of Agroforestry promotion project at the head office of the Department of Forest in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday morning with the attendance of Union Minister U Khin Maung Yi.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister stressed that the 2years and 6 months Agroforestry promotion project was initiated by Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund. Today workshop is held in order to review the tasks of the project, agroforestry technologies and career development tasks of the local farmers.

He added that practicing Agroforestry system benefits the livelihoods of the local farmers while also reducing the climate changes. Likewise, it also contributes to achieve sustainable development goals such as poverty eradication, food sufficiency, water quality improvement and biodiversity conservation.

During the workshop, the concerned officials, experts and local farmers made sector-wise discussions on agroforestry system, project results and tasks being carried out. The Forest Department is actively implementing the community forestry activities for the participation of local residents in forest conservation.

Moreover, the Ministry is implementing to establish 2.27 million acres of Community forest areas in accord with the 30 years National Forest Master plan. As of now, a total of 1.16 million forest acres have been established.
