Agriculture Sector: Financial support for flood damaged farmlands

On October 4th, a donation ceremony was held to provide financial support for replanting crops that were damaged and destroyed due to flooding caused by Typhoon Yagi.

This initiative is led by the Myanmar Rice Federation, the Myanmar Pulses, Beans, Maize and Sesame Seed Merchants Association, and the Yangon Region Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ba YintNaung Commodity Center).

The funds will be used to provide essential resources such as seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides for farmers to recover and sustain their livelihoods. During the ceremony, Myanmar Rice Federation provided a total of 1.25 billion kyats for capital investment and 500 million kyats cash assistance each from Myanmar Pulses, Beans, Maize and Sesame Seed Merchants Association, and the Yangon Region Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ba YintNaung Commodity Center).

The donated cash assistance will be used for replanting of 7,773 acres paddy fields affected by flooding. Moreover, 500 million kyat cash assistance and seed variety will be provided for the farmers to grow alternative crops such as groundnut, sesame, sunflower in the flood affected farmlands.
