Agriculture Sector: Event on choosing high yielding rice pedigree seeds

A ceremony on choosing high yielding short duration rice pedigree seeds participated by the Department of Agricultural Research and the farmers was held at Tae Gyi Gone village in Zabuthiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday.

The event was jointly organized by the Department of Agricultural Research, Department of Agriculture in collaboration with local farmers. Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr. Tin Htut said that this ceremony was held for local farmers to be able to choose high yielding short duration rice pedigree seeds which are produced by the Department of Agricultural Research.

And, collective efforts of related departments and farmers are needed for the development of country’s agriculture sector, he added. After meeting with the attendees, the Deputy Minister said thatcooperation of farmers and entrepreneurs plays a vital role in the production chain for boosting crop yield.

He also made instruction to all the officials and attendees that to be able to build long-term collaboration, farmers’ participatory research, livestock farming tasks and choosing qualified seeds are continued to implement by drafting strategic plans.
