Agriculture Sector: 41st meeting of the Pesticide Registration Board

The 41st meeting of the Pesticide Registration Board under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation was held at the Union Minister’s office on 27th December with the attendance of Deputy Minister Dr. Tin Htut.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Minister in his capacity as a Chairman of the Pesticide Registration Board highlighted that overuse of pesticide could destroy the natural environment and biodiversity by harming beneficial insects and animals and damage the soil quaility.

Also, the misuse of pesiticide increase the tolerance of the pests to pesticide.  Researches need to be carried out and reviews and suggestions on quality, efficacy and toxicity of the pesticide products are required to collect and submit to the pesticide technical committee to receive the necessary technology assistances. 

And, the pesticides that do not meet the set standard will not be allowed to register. He also encouraged the agricultural experts to emphasize the condition of the ecosystem and stated that those who deviate from the existing rules and regulation will be taken actions.

Then, the sector-wise discussions were made for the approval of a total of 109 pesticides submitted by pesticide technical committee members.
