Agriculture Development: Discussion on “Improvement of Agriculture Capacity”

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation organized the 22nd Round Table Talk titled “Improvement of Agriculture Capacity” at the Ministry Office on 14th June.

In the opening remark by Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung, he said that 70% of population in Myanmar live in rural areas, and among them 40% earn their livelihood by farming. That’s why, it is essential to support in improvement of socio-economic life and to implement for the development of agricultural capacity of the farmers.

He also said that getting enough farming water is important for agriculture sector and stressed the need to use water without wasting and to produce quality products by using modern technologies. He also urged the related departmental officials to cooperate in increasing yield of the main crops, to utilize modern agricultural equipment in farming and to implement systemic farmlands.

The Round Table Talk was hosted by the Director General of the Planning Department with the attendance of directors-general from the departments under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation and 100 officials from the department.

During their discussion, soil and water resources and farmland utilization, projects concerning the cultivation of summer paddy, beans and pluses, and corn were discussed. The discussion concluded with questions and answers session.
