Agricultural Development: Efforts to expand agriculture and livestock works

Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung met with the Bago Region Chief Minister U MyoSwe Win, Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Tin Maung Win and Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein respectively on 17th and 18th August.

During these meeting, they discussed matters pertaining to summer paddy, monsoon paddy and oil crops plantation projects initiative by State Economic Promotion Fund, expansion of sunflower and cotton plantations and developing dairy cow farming using artificial insemination.

The Union Minister outlined the plans to set designated acres for plantations in regions and states with annual expansion. The Union Minister also urged the relevant officials to make preparations to use pedigree seeds and to ensure sufficient agricultural inputs and water assessment  to meet targeted yields. 

A total of 1.09 million acres of monsoon and winter sunflower plantations are targeted to grow in 2024-2025 Financial Year and 3.07 million acres in 2027-2028. In expansion of cotton plantations,  a total of 700,000 acres are targeted to grow from 2023-2024 to 2027-2028 financial year.

In order to develop dairy cow farming and proudction of local milk and dairy products and to reduce the dairy product import volume, the dairy cow farming in 5 regions including Bago, Yangon and Ayeyawaddy regions will be expanded to over 60,000 dairy cows from 2024-2025 to 2027-2028 Financial Year.

Durint his tour in Ayeyawaddy Region, the Union Minister together with Chief Minister U Tin Maung Win visited the Sar Ma Lauk Village Farmers Awareness camp in Nyaungdone Township to comfort the flood affected farmers and clarify the assistance to be provided by the government.

During the visit, the Union Minister and the Chief Minister provided short-duration paddy species and fertilizers to the farmers. They also oversaw the weeding and spreading fertilizer at monsoon paddy plantations.
