Aftermath of Severe Earthquake: Quake impact in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area

The severe earthquake that struck on March 28th has caused significant destruction in the Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, with many government buildings, various infrastructures and residential buildings as well as the religious sites having sustained significant damage.

The Uppatasandhi Pagoda has saw damages in the pagoda cave, its platform and stairways. Various traditional handicrafts were also damaged in the pagoda caves including the stucco works of Buddhology display. Likewise, many hotels, located in the Nay Pyi Taw Hotel Zone were collapsed due to the powerful earthquake. Currently, Myanmar Fire Brigade and social organizations are carrying out the rescue and relief operations in cooperation with the international rescue teams.
